Hello!

Welcome to my website.dsc_0201

I’m Karen-Luz, and I’m a journalism student minoring in philosophy and English
language and literature at Carleton University in Ottawa.
Whether through fiction or fact, storytelling is what I love to do. I have a particular interest in urban stories: getting to know a city by looking closer, through its people, places, and events.

I’ve written various stories for Carleton’s independent weekly newspaper The Charlatan and community newspaper Centretown News. Feel free to check out some of my work here.

While I greatly enjoy learning and doing reporting work, sometimes I like to pause and write personal reflective and creative work in this corner of the Internet. I hope you enjoy your time here!

A note on the website title

One of my past homes was the city of Portland, Oregon. It was here in this city that I first discovered a niche for journalism, avidly reading The Oregonian and even heading the production of a school newspaper in my elementary school. The slogan “Keep Portland Weird” stuck a chord with me a long time ago, ever since I was in middle school. So as I grew more in love with storytelling, I decided that, in my various online presences, I wanted to pay small homage to the city that first sparked my love for human and urban journalistic stories, hence “Weird City Report.”
